Tom Powell

Chair of Audit Committee

Type: Community

With a 25 year career in finance and audit, Tom is currently the Head of Audit and Risk Management at Manchester City Council and the Chief Audit Executive for both Manchester City and Bolton Councils. He advises leadership teams on a wide range corporate matters and works closely with the statutory officers for finance and legal in assuring governance, information management, finance and all core aspects of the Council operations. Tom is a Deputy Senior Information Risk Officer and works with the Councils’ data Protection Officers to manage information risk, incidents and breaches. He oversees a range of policy frameworks including risk management; resilience and business continuity; safety; and counter fraud and whistleblowing.

Tom is married with two children and enjoys reading, playing and watching football and walking with his family and their cocker spaniel. Tom is looking forward to making a position contribution to the Trust, using his skills and capabilities in audit and risk management.

Sharon Bagshaw

Audit Committee – Trustee Member

Type – Community

Sharon is Managing Director, Barclays, IBM’s Global Markets.  She has had a varied career in the IT industry with over thirty years’ experience working with clients in Financial Services, Pharmaceuticals, Health & Life Sciences and during the last eight years in Public Sector.  She spent 4 years overseas in Switzerland in a global Senior Executive role leading the relationship and team delivering tech services across 63 countries for a Health and Life Sciences client.

Prior to leading IBM’s UK Public Sector business, Sharon was the VP Executive for the DVLA delivering operational IT Services and Business Application Services in support of the digital transformation of her UK Government client.

Sharon is passionate about the development of future tech skills to support the UK and firmly believes in establishing a closer relationship between industry and education.

Having joined IBM fresh from completing her A levels, she’s also a great believer in apprenticeships as a proven way to create the next generation of talent and leaders.

Outside of her professional career,  Sharon is a keen volunteer for The Alzheimers ociety and a member of its side by side programme.  She is delighted to be a @thedeantrust Board of Trustee. She is married with two children (although they do prefer not to be called “kids” anymore!!).

 

Jamie Otter

Audit Committee – Independent member

Type: Community

Originally from Lincolnshire, Jamie has worked for schools in the North and North West since 2011.   Jamie is a partner at Stone King, one of the most prominent education firms in the country, and advises schools and academies on commercial and governance issues.  He is very interested in how schools can collaborate to drive success.

​Jamie is particularly keen to ensure that schools continue to excel and provide a supportive environment for their pupils to thrive. He also feels that schools should play a big part in local life, and continue to build strong links with partner schools and local communities.

Jamie has three daughters aged 16, 14 and 5.
