27th March 2020

Dear Parents/Carers

We hope that you and your family are well and that you are following Public Health guidance to stay safe.

As we reach the end of an unprecedented week, I would like to express our thanks to all our staff who have ensured that we have been able to provide a broad range of educational activities for our pupils who are at home, and a safe and purposeful school based provision for the children of key workers and those deemed to be vulnerable.

We know that this is a very worrying time for you all, particularly our fantastic pupils who have lost their daily routine of coming into school, going to lessons and extra-curricular activities, and seeing their friends and teachers. I know that The Dean Trust staff are missing them.

There are many questions that remain unanswered in education including ‘How long will schools be closed?’ and ‘How will grades be calculated for Year 6, Year 11 and Year 13 pupils?’ May we assure you that we will forward any updates as soon as we have them to try and alleviate any anxieties at this time of uncertainty.

What we do know is that it is very important that we maintain a sense of structure and purpose to our days. Whilst we cannot replicate a normal school day at home, we can certainly encourage our pupils to: timetable subject based sessions (using the online work that has been set by their teachers); talk about their learning with you and their family; eat healthily, sleep well and exercise; take-up new activities; use social media to stay in contact with family and friends; and even research topics in preparation for their studies in the future.

Wishing you and your families good health.
